Carter House Swing Bridge

As part of the rejuvenation of the Sankey Canal running alongside the north side of the Mersey, this project involved the replacement of a fixed timber bridge used for maintenance vehicles and pedestrian access. The new bridge is a single carriageway, 15m long, steel swing bridge weighing 18 tonnes.

Eadon Consulting provided the bridge structure design to BS5400-3 in addition to the design of the mechanical components to BS2573. Eadon also provided full detailed manufacturing drawings of all components.

Due to early complications which delayed the start of the project the design works and manufacturing drawings were carried out in only four weeks.

Following the successful completion of the Carter House Bridge Project, there are future plans by the Sankey Canal Restoration Society to replace several other bridge structures along the same stretch of canal. The waterway leads to the picturesque Sankey Valley Park.
