Bradford Mirror Pool Draw Bridge

Bradford Council have recently given the go ahead for the £24.4m City Park development. The City Park development will transform the city centre with a brand new urban park in the areas surrounding the existing Bradford Town Hall.

The centre piece for the City Park will be a Mirror Pool, the largest city centre water feature in the UK. The pool takes the form of a shallow water feature which can be rapidly drained to provide an open air entertainment space and auditorium. At the western Edge of the Mirror Pool is a Media Pod which will house the events control room and security office.

The Media Pod has been designed by Sturgeon North Architects with Ove Arup (Leeds Office). Eadon Consulting were asked by Arup to provide an exemplar design for the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment for a movable bridge used to access the Media Pod when the Mirror Pool is in use as a performance space. As part of their services Eadon provided a brief study into the various options available for operating the draw bridge and worked with Arup and the project Architect, Sturgeon North, to select the most appropriate solution. The selected option was then developed to an exemplar level of detail and a specification document written to cover the construction and final design.
