Dover Ro-Ro bridge works extend life of berth

Eadon Consulting are currently working with Tony Gee & Partners on the Dover Berth 3 life extending works for Dover Harbour Board. The aim of the project is to ensure that the Berth 3 roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) bridge can continue to provide reliable and safe service long into the future.

Eadon's involvement includes the redesign of the mechanisms at the tips of the link span decks (fingers) which form the final adjustment between the linkspan and the docked ship and mechanical, electrical and hydraulic assistance on modifications to the passenger access walkways.

Both modifications provide an update to berth 3 that not only extends the useful life of the facility but also further enhances the good safety, maintainability and reliability of the berth.

These design changes will then be applied to Berths 2 and 7 as part of future projects within the Port of Dover.

The works on site are progressing well and the various elements are currently being worked on in various locations. The access brow has been stripped of paint and protective coatings are being applied by Hollandia. The linkspan fingers are in production at Qualter Hall’s works along with the refurbishment of the hoist machinery.
